Including the mobile charger is a safety thing on road trips. It’s there if you can plug the car in on a standard outlet. Get a few miles to a DCFC. It’s the EV gallon gas can
We all know that was a lie he made up. They are probably short parts and don’t want to have that hold deliveries up, just like when they removed the radar.
This is dumb. I charge at home with the mobile connector that came with the car on a 240v outlet and I use it when I travel to see my parents 4 hours away on a 120v outlet at their house. Plenty of other Tesla owners do the same. Seems like just a bs money grab to make people pay an extra $300 for a connector that was previously included when purchasing the car.
Teslascope is reporting usage by charging session. We don’t know whether that’s comparable to what Elon was talking about. If Tesla owners that charge exclusively with the mobile connector charge more often, that could inflate charging sessions. I know I have a Wall Connector and I just leave my vehicle plugged in. But someone with a mobile connector might be plugging and unplugging multiple times per day.
The relevant question when deciding whether to keep the mobile charger part of the mandatory equipment is what percentage of cars use the mobile charger
1. Never
2. a few times a year, at a location where there is a super charger close (so they have an alternative)
3. frequently, or in remote locations
Why charge everyone for the mobile charger if say 30% never use it? Better to use those $200 towards an EVSE if that’s what you are going to use.
I would love to not have to pay for carpet floormats, for example. I remove them in every car and put in all-weather ones.
Nobody would care if they removed it and lowered the vehicle price. But they kept the vehicle price the same, so it seems a lot more like a cash grab and a components shortage. Just like the lumbar, USB ports, radar, premium headliners, and everything else they’ve removed.
Once upon a time, Tesla focused on delighting customers by adding features and options.

It is really really dumb not to include a charger on a vehicle that costs 50,000+, and for most people is a first time EV.
It’s “small” thing, but its another reason to look at other EVs.

Include the wall charger because of usage stats

Tesla removed turn signals because usage logs showed no one used them.
I rarely plug in with my mobile charger, but I “use” it every time I drive. It’s in my trunk just in case I need it.
