      The price they pay for profit gouging luxury, cynically thinking that the average Fiat 500 buyer is a rich husband with a +3 car household.

      @@toyotaprius79 To be fair to Fiat they also got screwed over by the Stelantis merger. Fiat built a whole electric car platform to be shared across loads of small cars – then the Stelantis merger happened and those plans were ripped up, leaving Fiat with a very expensive platform with only one model to try and recuperate the cost.

      It was clear when they launched the 500e, that the intentions were not for it be this expensive

    Hell, a Nissan LEAF 39kWh will do far better than the Spring for under £10k used bow (2019-20 models out of drive-train warranty go for under £8k now).

    And the Zoe 50 will wipe the floor with both of them.

      And with the discounts Nissan’s had for years they weren’t ever really near their list price, but also in 2024 they’ve been going consistently new for under £17k.

    Great to see you cover EVs which people can afford. The Fiat would be my choice for the reasons Nicola gave. But good for Dacia for raising the bar on what is practical and cheap. Agree about the “WTF Fiat” BTW.

    @megapangolin1093

    Dacia is the more practical as a second car, and for anyone in the city. 0-60? Are we really worrying about those figures these days with speed limits and cameras? In.a city 0-30 is what counts and I bet both are adequate there. SUV styling makes for easy ingress/egress and carrying.stuff. Thank you girls, good to do a head to head.

    I’ve yet to see a Dacia spring in the wild but when the Leep Motors T03 comes to market then you will have a direct competitor, I think you should have included in your comparison insurance groups and servicing costs. If you have the Spring serviced at a Dacia dealers annually you would get a seven year warranty.

    I’ve said before on this channel, I was dead set on the Dacia Spring but it was highlighted to me that I could get an i3S for the same money. And the Spring was later to market than first promised.
    I would make the same choice again (BMW) over the Spring. And if the the BMW was not in budget, I’d opted for the 500.
    Really like the Spring, purely based on it’s price but it has (sadly) got too much (quality) 2nd hand rivals.

    Over 1100 used EV’s on auto trader today from between £16 and 17k. This price seems to be the sweet spot. If your not ageist when it comes to cars, the world is your oyster.

    Finally the EV reaches the bottom end of the market. An affordable small car with moderate power and range would suit a hell of a lot of people for the majority of what they do in their lives. Personally, if I had £17K to spend on a car, I would buy a decent big comfy diesel. My daughter has a petrol 500 and it is like a little go-cart and is great fun to drive.

      Certainly, at the moment you can get a 24 plate spring pre registered so basically new for 13.5k, they only have 140 mile range with a new battery, so basically with the cold weather and battery degradation, that would probably come down to 100 mile range, ok for a shopping car, but that’s it.
